Puerto Padre - a historical place
Although Puerto Padre isn't very big, it's pretty known between the Cubans in all Cuba dued to his long history and because before the revolution it was a prosperating place (dued to the sugar cane and the harbour). The hole district of Puerto Padre counts right now about 100.000 people and only in Puerto Padre town, there live about 20.000 people.
On the entrance to the town you will see an old spanish fortress from the 16Ith centurary which gives evidence of the long history of Puerto Padre. Even there are people, they say that Puerto Padre was the first place, Columbus stepped on the island of Cuba - but that's not proofed.
